The Dean's Dish

Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap
Jun 21 2011

Musings

So, I told myself I would be in bed early tonight. Early meaning 11. At this point, my action plan is done and in progress, my CMs blew me away with their internalization and level of discourse, we are administering our diagnostic Wednesday, when for most, that data won’t come in until next Monday, I’ve met with several faculty advisers and shared our Institute Student Curriculum with them as well as invested them in teaching the first 6-8 objectives in the Semester One section….this is only day one!

My brain just needs to dump all that has happened. On the list was a chance encounter with the current Principal, Daniel Kramer, a 1990 Charter Corps member. My direct manager, a member of the Institute Management Team (IMT) was on hand to get a picture of the three of us on day one. It was a moment I won’t soon forget. To meet someone who pushed through that first year, without all of the support my team and I have, was just astonishing.

Our time is coming. 20 years and going strong. The gap is closing. This looks to be an amazing summer. The thought of having data going into the first weekend makes me giddy.

I’d like to give a shout out to my friend, Ben (StL), who is running a Leadership Pilot, here at Chicago’s Institute. Also, to my friend and fellow badger, Anita, who is running the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Pilot.

That’s all the Dean has time for now. More dishes coming soon.
